Mindful Morning Routine

Early morning is a sacred time when it is still and quiet. It makes it easy to turn inward and begin the day feeling calm and peaceful in both mind and body, and ultimately allows you to make better choices throughout the day.

 

Wake Up

Wake up early – I wake up between 6 and 6.30am without an alarm.

 

Hydrate

Right away I usually put a kettle on the stove to boil water for my morning decaffeinated green tea, and while I’m waiting I down at least 8 oz. of cold water.

 

Yoga Practice

After gathering my tea and my journal, it’s time for my morning Yoga practice. If I need additional time to wake up, I will do this after meditating but it is very important to me to start the day on an active note and move my body.

 

Meditation

Daily meditation will help reduce stress and anxiety. It also helps increase mental clarity and focus. I struggled at first with incorporating mediation into my daily routine, but when I allowed myself the time to just be in the morning I realized that it also helps focus on the present moment and therefore increases self-awareness.

 

Journal

My journal has become an interesting part of my life.. Some days I feel like I can write pages, and others I simply need to write a task or two. I don’t force myself to write, but I do give myself the time to acknowledge what feels best at the moment.

 

Breakfast

After my quiet time, I typically make a light breakfast. I used to eat my breakfast in the kitchen standing, but I have been making a conscious effort to sit down and take time to eat my breakfast without my phone to distract me!

 

Shower

After my shower, I’m ready for the day ahead feeling fully balanced in my mind, body & soul.
