Natural eye makeup is subtle, elegant, and, best of all, super simple to apply. It’s great for people who are on the go and don’t have much time to spend on extensive makeup routines.
A natural eye can be accomplished with just six products: primer, brow gel, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and concealer. There’s really no secret to mastering the look; all you have to do is apply the products in order (if you’re looking for some heightened drama, feel free to get creative with them!) and boom — you’re ready to slay the day.
However, if we’re applying a natural makeup look, we might as well do it with some natural and sustainable products. There’s no need to apply harmful chemicals to our skin when there’s a great selection of sustainable beauty products available! Check out some favorites for achieving a natural eye look:
Primer
Start by priming your eyelids with Honest Co’s Matte Everything Primer. This creates a smooth canvas ready for makeup application while keeping unwanted shine at bay. Honest Co’s rich, silky formula is infused with naturally skin-nourishing ingredients like black currant extract, sunflower seed oil and raspberry extract. It’s also free of silicone, parabens, synthetic fragrances and petroleum.
Brows
Formulated without fragrance or alcohol, Glossier’s Boy Brow grooming pomade makes for fluffy, instantly groomed brows that still achieve a subtle, natural makeup look. Beeswax and carnauba wax hold hairs in place without stiffness, and atelocollagen, a natural collagen derivative, helps condition and strengthen hair.
Eyeshadow
To nail the natural look, go for a nude eyeshadow palette that compliments the tone of your skin. We love the pod palette from The Organic Skin Co. not only because it’s customizable (you can mix and match the shades of eyeshadow to fill it with), but because of the brand’s stellar commitment to sustainability. Their products are natural, organic, vegan, cruelty-free, and even come in sustainable packaging. Each eyeshadow is made with organic pomegranate and calendula extracts to minimize fine lines and promote skin regeneration on the eyes.
If you’d prefer to have someone make the decision for you rather than customize a palette yourself, try Lily Lolo’s Pedal to the Metal Eyeshadow Palette. This palette offers up an entire range of dark and light natural earth tones. The eyeshadows are formulated with nourishing argan and jojoba oils and are certified vegan, GMO-free and cruelty-free.
Eyeliner
Eyeliner is an optional step for a natural makeup look, but if you’re looking for some added oomph, we recommend using BareMinerals' Lasting Line Long-Wearing Eyeliner. A blend of minerals and Vitamin C soothes the eyelids while delivering long-lasting results. This product is free of parabens, synthetic fragrances, talc, and gluten.
Mascara
W3ll People’s Expressionist Pro mascara makes your lashes pop while boasting top-tier sustainability. This product is non-toxic, cruelty-free, sustainably made, and is verified by the EWG (Environmental Working Group). What’s more, it’s made with hydrating organic beeswax and sunflower seed oil, but kicks chemicals like parabens, petrolatum, and aluminum to the curb.
Concealer
Last up, concealer! I recommend using Milk Makeup’s Flex Concealer, a buildable formula that allows for medium-to-full coverage under your eyes. Available in 26 different shades, this concealer harnesses the power of marshmallow root extract for a smooth, non-cakey finish. It’s also full of other natural ingredients, like moisturizing blue lotus and chamomile extract to calm redness.
My goal is to inspire you to curate all aspects of your life, while helping you walk a little more mindful on the planet.
